Letter of Recommendation | Stuart Rosenblatt, Ph.D.

December 26, 2019 Dear Prospective Donors: I'm writing on behalf of The Institute for Poetic Medicine to strongly encourage your consideration for supporting their noble efforts to foster the healing power of poetry. As the Executive Director of New Choices Recovery Center, a non-profit organization serving individuals recovering from substance abuse and mental health disorders, I can personally attest to the Institute's ability, through poetry, to provide comfort and hope to those in need. For the past seven years, we have been the beneficiary of the Institute's programs and services. Each of those years, John Fox has visited New Choices to conduct poetry readings and to facilitate poetry writing classes with our clients. These events were funded in large part by grants made by the Institute and supplemented by New Choices. It has been an uplifting experience for us to observe Mr. Fox helping our clients to unleash their creativity and imagination through poetry-writing and provide them with a renewed sense of well-being and self-esteem. We have memorialized our clients' poetry by publishing an anthology of their works which are then distributed to them as a keepsake and reminder of their inherent talents. By virtue of the Institute's efforts, we have come to more fully recognize the value of poetry in helping people overcome adversity and come in touch with their true self and the world around them. As such, we now routinely incorporate poetry-reading and poetry-writing activities into our treatment and recovery programming. We are truly grateful to The Institute for Poetic Medicine for their contributions and strongly encourage other organizations (such as ours) to look to them for their support and expertise. Please feel free to contact me with any additional information you may wish. Sincerely, Stuart I. Rosenblatt, Ph.D. Executive Director 518-348-7973 srosenblatt@newchoicesrecovery.org
