It's been so long since...

"It's been so long since"

the summer wind embraced

my echo’s laughter-

its gentle cough tickles

my rounded belly

joyously swishes

Popsicle syrup, melted

the shivering tongue,

slowly warmed

in evening heat

my gaze studies fireflies

their silent sprint

Mason jar’s selfish approach,

its clear, glassy case,

metallic top- slit

I long to:

"graze the stars" in a city

       where streets’ lights

       mask Milky Way,

       only alive in speckled skin

crickets long to:

       play their scratchy sound

       in darkness

       violin legs sharpen

       each other as knives

slumber disappears in

a siren’s wail, churns

its high-pitched grief

the "softened mind", "cast off"

a tiny body tosses,

bathes in moonlight
