Metaphor Medicine

In 2020 Wayne Gilbert created Metaphor Medicine, a poetry workshop for people with Parkinson’s (PwP’s) and care-partners. Wayne has offered the workshop multiple times from 2020 until 2025.

He has worked in collaboration with the Davis Phinney Foundation (DPF), an international Parkinson’s educational and advocacy organization, to offer Metaphor Medicine to its Ambassadors. DPF Ambassadors are people with Parkinson's selected and trained to mentor, coach, counsel, and advise other people with Parkinson’s in various specialty areas. He has also done workshops for local support groups.

Wayne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2005 and is an active poet, performer and workshop leader. He knew John Fox and the work of poetry-as-healer for more than a quarter century.
