These Days
whatever you have to say, leave
the roots on, let them
dangle
And the dirt
Just to make clear
where they come from

Would you like to discover your voice?
In this poem-making workshop you will be provided with the support you need to discover, strengthen and creatively express your voice while in the company of other like-minded individuals.
Together we will create the opportunity to meet and share ourselves with others to write, speak, listen and deepen our roots into what most matters to us. This is our birthright, and we will collectively practice cultivating this kind of liberating, even revolutionary experience for ourselves and our relationships.
What are the values and conditions help a community and the individuals within it to flourish? What do you feel is missing from community? Is a rooted connection to the earth missing? If there were no poetry in the world, in your world, what would be missing? What is your story about your creative voice? Where do you go to be renewed?
Connection and growth are possible when we write, create and read poems together. Why? Poetry includes: pleasure and sadness, insight and feeling, surrender and hard questioning, those things we know and what we don’t, our rich sensing of the natural world and intuitive awareness of spirit or raising awareness of how they might be missing from our lives--these also feed the heart of community and the soul of each person.
In this workshop, we will ask questions that reflect on: What holds us back from connection to ourselves and to community? What helps us cultivate trust and empathy, non-judgment and honesty? How do you say what you really want to say? How do we listen to that saying?
We will treat these questions and qualities as threads of relationship that weave and sustain the fabric of community. Through the cultivation of these questions, qualities and attitudes we will begin to uncover our unique beauty and inner strengths and a language that gives us resources for healing.
Often, just taking a small step just beyond the familiar is all one needs to do. The benefit of making yourself available to community is profound when there is respect and support for both safety and the taking of our next step.
